Meet Dr. Lance VanDemark

Dr. Lance VanDemark is the founder of VanDemark Engineering and Consulting and a nationally recognized civil engineering expert witness specializing in complex infrastructure disputes. With over 25 years of design experience and more than a decade in civil forensics, he provides clear, defensible opinions in litigation, arbitration, and claims resolution.

His expertise spans civil engineering disputes involving grading, drainage and erosion control, utilities and utility conflicts, transportation systems, oil and gas pipelines, pavement, airport infrastructure, and eminent domain. Dr. VanDemark has delivered expert opinions in 45 states, been deposed over 45 times, and provided trial testimony in 19 cases across the country.

He holds a Ph.D. in Engineering and Applied Science from the University of Colorado and advanced degrees from the Colorado School of Mines, where he earned dual bachelor’s degrees in Civil and Mechanical Engineering. His doctoral research focused on dispute resolution and risk mitigation in construction-related claims.

A Fellow of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), Dr. VanDemark serves as Editor in Chief of the ASCE Journal of Legal Affairs and Dispute Resolution in Engineering and Construction. He is an active contributor to the industry through publications, presentations, and leadership within ASCE’s Claims Avoidance and Resolution Committee.
